Understanding Dog Behavior Modification

Dog behavior modification is what is required if you want to resolve negative behavioral reactions, such as aggression, possessiveness and fear in canines.  Obedience training cannot help rectify the problems because commands are designed to control your pooch, they do not address the underlying reasons for the issues your pet is experiencing.

For instance, if your canine is acting aggressively you can use a command to call him off but having him sit or lie down isn’t going to stop his aggression or remove the fear he feels.  Only through a dog behavior modification program will you be able to eventually help your companion overcome his psychological struggle and alter his reactions and perceptions towards circumstances that upset him.

Although each program for modification will be different, because the type of steps you will need to take will vary depending on the issues your pooch is struggling with, the following is an example of a technique that may prove helpful for dogs displaying fear aggression towards people.

Step 1 – Figure out what is causing him to be aggressive.  Does he only react to strangers when they are inside, outside or both?  Dose he have an aversion for men or kids and if so,
